Today, in the modern world, people are free to choose their religion but in the past many people were obliged to follow a certain religion. Religion has helped the world in many ways but it has also harmed the world's ability to increase in discoveries. For example, in the inquisition period the Roman Catholic Church greatly questioned new discoveries and reached extremes by murdering people who did not agree with the church's view.
